More than protection
Crowns protect teeth that are decayed, broken or worn down, and they are also an important part of cosmetic dentistry. A crown can strengthen a weak tooth and change its shape, size and appearance, restoring a healthy look to teeth that are damaged or badly discolored.
A crown is made to look, feel and work like a natural tooth. You can choose porcelain, zirconia, porcelain fused to metal, or a CEREC crown made in the office the same day.
Caring for your crown
Look after the whole mouth: brush and floss every day, and keep your six-month exams and cleanings so Dr. McFerran can check your crowns and recommend anything they need. Keep sugar low, and do not chew ice or hard raw vegetables.

Excellent, excellent dental. I've worked with both Dr. McFerran and Dr. Atif and they're both wonderful. I needed a same-day crown and Dr. Atif had me in and out in an hour and a half with a temporary crown on. I was impressed with the friendliness and professionalism of the tech, the quick check from billing to see what I would be paying out the door when I had to switch from filling to crown, and the bedside manner of the doctor. He was nice to everyone in the room, other staff and myself included, and very gentle on my mouth. 10/10 would recommend both doctors, actually. Either way you go, you're in good hands!

Went in for a route canal and crown..the experience was amazing. Staff was awesome and friendly..I didn't have one bit of pain during the process. Doc was very on top of things by taking X-ray after each step. Kept me informed.

Questions
Are caps and crowns the same thing?
Yes. "Cap" is the informal name for a crown.
Do I need a root canal before a crown?
Not always. A root canal is only needed when the tooth has an infection, deep decay or nerve damage. Crowns are often placed after root canal treatment to protect the tooth.
Is sensitivity normal after a new crown?
Some sensitivity to hot or cold is normal and usually fades within a few days to a few weeks. If it persists or gets worse, call the office.
Can a crown be whitened?
No. Crowns are color-matched when they are made, so if you want whiter teeth, whiten before the crown is made.
My temporary crown came off. What should I do?
Keep it safe, clean the area, avoid chewing on that side and call the office for advice.
