For nervous patients
Many people put off the dentist for as long as they can. Healthy teeth need a visit every six months, so for patients who feel too nervous or scared for exams or procedures, the office offers sedation that calms your nerves while the team takes care of your teeth.
Laughing gas
The most common method. You breathe it through a mask over your nose and mouth, and it takes effect within 30 seconds to four minutes. It is used for children and adults to relax and to reduce discomfort enough for numbing shots. You stay conscious throughout, it wears off quickly, and adults can usually drive themselves home.
Oral sedation
A pill or tablet reduces anxiety and discomfort so treatment can go ahead. You stay awake during the procedure, but it takes longer to wear off, so have someone drive you to and from your appointment.
