Why custom-fitted
A custom mouthguard is made specifically for you: the team measures your teeth and mouth to make one that fits. Over-the-counter guards are not recommended here, because they are not shaped to your teeth, they do not protect well, and they are bulky enough to make breathing harder.
If you want a reasonable fit for less, a boil-and-bite guard from a department store softens in hot water so you can shape it in your mouth. A custom guard is the best option if you do not mind the visit or the cost.
